TARGA Great Barrier Reef

This weekend will see the sold out field of competitors take to the scenic roads and forbidding mountains of Tropical North Queensland. The competition vehicles will include everything from pre-war classics to the latest exotic supercars.

The Queensland Police Service were proud hosts of the 3rd Australasian Indigenous Family Violence Policing Conference with the theme, sharing stories, protecting family, tracking our future which was recently held at the Cairns Convention Centre. Queensland’s 2019 event offered anti-domestic violence learning and networking opportunities for police, health and wellbeing professionals, Elders, leaders and members, living and working within Indigenous communities.

The International Behavioral Neuroscience Society (IBNS) 28th Annual Meeting welcomed more than 300 delegates to Cairns for five days of meetings, poster exchange and networking. Stress breaks proved particularly popular with massages and a puppy lounge for delegates to enjoy cuddles with furry friends. Funds raised at the puppy lounge will support the Young Animal Protection Society.

IJET Celebrates 30th Conference in Cairns

International Japanese-English Translation (IJET) hosted their 30th Conference at the Cairns Convention Centre from June 28-30. Topics as diverse as academic publication, interpreters for Aboriginal Australians, the arithmetic of translation, legal translation and monetary policy were part of the extensive program. There were also some light-hearted, hands-on workshops, one of which demonstrated the pitfalls and dilemmas of video game translation and ways it draws or differs from other genres of entertainment and technical translation.

Guest speaker, Darren Isenberg, led the Business Events community of Cairns through an inspirational and entertaining examination of how each of us can make positive differences.
