Leading Cairns Growth
Strong meetings and conventions demand has seen Cairns outstripping
other Australian cities in hotel occupancy and yield growth in the
first half of 2001.
The
Anderson Hotel Industry Benchmark Survey figures showed Cairns hotels
experienced 5.9% growth in occupancy and 7% improvement in yield
over the same period in 2000. Only Brisbane of all capital and major
provincial cities showed higher performance levels.
The
Director of Hospitality Services at Anderson Mr Rutger Smits said
in releasing the report “Cairns has been well supported by meetings
and conference demand during the first two quarters in 2001”.
“Queensland’s
overall strong performance was due to a strong events-based calendar
and buoyant convention business” Mr Smits said.
