World Avocado Congress
During the first week of September, Cairns was home to nearly 800 international delegates attending the World Avocado Congress. The meeting is held every four years. Previous hosts include: USA, South Africa, Israel, Mexico, Spain and Chile.
Avocados featured in many innovative new dishes created especially for the Congress by the Centre's Executive Chef, Perry Stevens. Some of the menu items included Avocado Damper with Spiced Chilli Butter, Avocado Carolines (Savoury Profiterole) and Lime Grilled Chicken with Avocado and Paw Paw.
